Descrição

Field sampling data of juvenile scalloped hammerhead sharks in the Rewa Delta (Fiji) is provided here, for the period 2014 to 2015 only.

This dataset is dedicated to the late Celso Cawich who was instrumental in conducting the entire field sampling for this research.

Research funding was provided by The University of the South Pacific’s (USP) Strategic Research Theme (SRT) under the project “Evolutionary Ecogenomics and Conservation of Scalloped Hammerhead Sharks in the Western and Central Pacific Ocean: Implications for the Assessment of Non-Detrimental Findings under CITES regulations”, SRT/ 6175-3107-70766-617508, awarded to Ciro Rico, Cara Miller, Susanna Piovano and Celso Cawich. Additional funding was provided through the (then) USP Faculty of Science, Technology and Environment research student grant awarded to Celso Cawich, as well as funding from Projects Abroad and Frontier.

Dados Sobre o Projeto

The main objective of our proposed project is to mobilize natural history (NH) collection data housed in both government and non-government institutions in Fiji. These include collections held at the South Pacific Regional Herbarium and the Discipline of Marine Studies, both located at the University of the South Pacific (hereafter USP), and the Ministries of Forestry and Agriculture. Our project will help promote the incorporation of open-access biodiversity data into decision-making processes and to inform policy, and also raise collective awareness of the importance of collections.
