2018-10-30 eng The seagrass data monitoring and mapping is conducted at various sites in Solomon Islands under the CMS/GEF Dugong/Seagrass project. It provides a much –valued opportunity to promote community-based conservation of dugong and seagrass in the Solomon Islands. The main focus area of the project for Solomon Islands is to; raise national awareness of the importance of dugong in Solomon Islands culture and of seagrass as a mitigation against climate change impacts, promoting the role of Locally Managed Marine Areas in the conservation of seagrass and dugong, mapping of seagrass meadows and managing these activities through a National Coordinating Committee Samplingevent GBIF Dataset Type Vocabulary: http://rs.gbif.org/vocabulary/gbif/dataset_type.xml Observation GBIF Dataset Subtype Vocabulary: http://rs.gbif.org/vocabulary/gbif/dataset_subtype.xml This work is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution Non Commercial (CC-BY-NC) 4.0 License. Seagrass watch protocols. The study area or the sampling area for the monitoring data covers various sites in Solomon Islands including, Tetepare island (Western Province), Kmaga (Isable Province) and in Marau (Guadalcanal Province) The method of collecting is basically using transect, using checklist (seagrass watch) for identification and general observation. Using seagrass watch protocols. Solomon Islands Seagrass Monitoring Data under the CMS/GEF Dugong/Seagrass project Kelly Brown pointOfContact The tropical Indo-pacific is recognized as the world's most diverse marine environment, but its size and remoteness present challenges for documentation and studying biodiversity. This project will build on the protocols, tools and growing network of collaborators established by the Diversity of the Indo-Pacific Network and VertNet to mobilize biodiversity data and identify conservation priorities in Fiji, Vanuatu, Solomon Islands and New Caledonia. The dataset was prepared and published with the funding from the European Union via the Global Biodiversity information Facility
